On April 2, 2026 at 11:56 AM, the reporter was riding a cargo bike with a child in the rear near the BYU Life Sciences area on 800 North when a BYU grounds crew maintenance/yard-work truck was parked at a pedestrian crossing, blocking the bike lane. The reporter waited for traffic to clear before maneuvering into the vehicle lane to pass the truck. While accelerating around it, the reporter nearly struck a pedestrian entering the crosswalk, who was obscured by the truck; the reporter braked sharply to avoid a collision. The reporter indicated that this type of obstruction has been seen before.
