On August 31, 2026 at 3:00 PM, the reporter was trying to turn left from 600 West onto 500 North when a gold Chevrolet Tahoe with dark window tint turned left from 500 North onto 600 West in the opposite direction. The crossing guard was standing in the 500 North crosswalk with her sign raised, but the Tahoe proceeded through the intersection as the reporter's group was trying to cross toward the school. The reporter said the vehicle is frequently seen parked at a house on 800 West and believed the driver may not have realized that the guard was only blocking the 500 North crossing. The reporter noted that the morning crossing guard stands in the middle of the intersection to block both crosswalks, while the afternoon guard is less assertive.
